Clocks

Instrumental piece for two duelling and duetting prepared pianos.

Written for a dance piece devised by Off Beaten Path Dance Company. The choreography was set already and the music written in response to the choreography, which was a reverse on the initial approach to our collaboration. With this dance company, I explored multiple approaches around creating music for dance - from live improvisation; to pre-composed music; to collaboratively devised pieces; to this experiment in writing in response to existing choreography. 

The original version was less sectional and more improvisational, built on two layered piano tracks. Each of the piano tracks uses the same piano preparation.

In live performance with the dance show, I improvised a third piano part in reaction to the movement on stage.
